In the wee hours of the morning while the sun has yet to appear, I hear them. Outside my window a chorus of birds are singing. Not just a few, but a grand choir echoing through the trees.
The birds have no worries as they begin their day with a song. They will eventually find a plump beetle or slimy worm to bring home to their nest; a feast that will surely satisfy. Flitting about their day, they have this innate sense about them that all they need will be provided.
They don’t even know that over 2,000 years ago, Jesus used their morning plight to teach a concept we would need to be reminded in our world today.
As He [Jesus] sat among the people He instructed them, “Don’t worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to Him than they are?” (Matthew 6)
In case you’re wondering, let me answer this question for you, “Yes, yes you are!” You are extremely valuable to our Father in heaven and He sees you right where you are at this very moment. He knows the worries your heart feels as the unknown future can be a scary place to dwell.
I am confident that God not only sees you, but He wants more than anything to bring hope to your worried soul. This hope is given through His one and only Son, Jesus, who gave His life for you on the cross.
If you are filled with worry today, just cry out to God one simple word, “HELP!” Then, tell Him the worries of heart. He will carry them for you and give you a song filled with hope to sing.
The birds ain’t got nothing on the symphony that sounds from a heart that finds hope in our God. May you find yourself singing today!
